A Mountain of Anime News Arrived Over the Holidays

The Christmas holidays offer a multitude of pursuits considerably more enjoyable than checking the headlines: discovering surprises, feasting on delicious food, and using meditation skills to refrain from yelling at loved ones. Hopefully you managed to accomplish all these things and more. Nevertheless, the world of entertainment doesn't go on vacation, and this is notably true for the realm of anime. A slew of thrilling news items surfaced over the break, and just in case you overlooked some of them, here is a compilation of the most exciting bits.

The One-Punch Man Series Season 3 Will Continue (In 2027)

Perhaps the most surprising piece of news, the widely-criticized controversial season that was the third season of One-Punch Man proved insufficient to deter more episodes. The show will return with a second cour in 2027—so far away they could have called it season 4. Adding to the surprise, the studio J.C. Staff will still be at the helm. At least this time, director Shinpei Nagai is attached to direct from the outset, which might be a good sign. However, the key visual for the continuation is identical to the one used for season 3, just with characters Saitama and Garou oriented differently. This makes me think that, by now, they could be teasing the fans.

Ruri Dragon Will Be the Premiere Shonen Jump Anime By Kyoto Animation

Kyoto Animation has established a reputation for being an top-tier animation studio, distinguishing itself not just for the superb artistry of its productions but for the ethical practices of its employees—a rarity in the industry. Unexpectedly, until now, it had not adapted an anime adapted from a manga from Shonen Jump, possibly the best-known magazine in the field. Ruri Dragon will end that streak, and what a excellent choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo gained massive popularity when it launched in 2022 after just a small number of issues, but then went into a lengthy break due to the creator's health issues. When it resumed publication with a reduced workload, the series showed it maintained the fans' support and enthusiasm, and now everyone is overjoyed about the upcoming KyoAni adaptation.

The Kingdom Series Its Sixth Season Has a Sequel Now in the Works

Kingdom is the top-selling, long-running Shueisha manga that is other than One Piece. If you've are unfamiliar with it before, it's because it only recently got an English release, but the anime has been going on for a while, and its sixth season was another stellar entry. As it happens that was just the initial batch, because a "sequel" has been revealed as in production, and it will almost certainly premiere in 2026.

Science Saru Will Adapt A Witch in Mongolia Into an Anime Series

A further studio known for the artistic merit of its productions, Science Saru has delivered hit shows of the caliber of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, lastly, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be taking on the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, inspired by the true story of Fatima, an influential woman and scholar in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Judging from the trailer, the anime named Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a truly original and fascinating visual style, which reminds me a bit of Ranking of Kings. Set to premiere in July 2026, this one will definitely be on my must-watch list.

Tougen Anki Is Set to Continue With a Second Season

Right after the release of episode 24, it was revealed that Tougen Anki will be securing a second season. Adapted from the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki brings to life the manga by Yura Urushibara. The second season of the anime will cover the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a firm air date has not been disclosed yet.
